Schiavi della vita

L’opera prende spunto dalla manilla, la moneta di scambio utilizzata durante la tratta degli schiavi, per fare una riflessione sulle oppressioni moderne. La manilla oggi non circola più ma l’uomo non si è liberato da altre schiavitù: la corda che avvolge le figure è come un cappio che le imbriglia in una condizione (concreta o mentale) di asservimento rispetto alle “scelte” imposte dalla società. La corda però non ha nodi: l’umanità si vincola autonomamente all’apatia della sua comfort zone, senza operare azioni di libertà.  Solo il bambino è libero da ogni tipo legame perché non ancora assoggettato da influenze esterne.

Slave of life

The work takes its cue from the manilla, the currency of exchange used during the slave trade, to make a reflection on modern oppressions. Today manilla no longer circulates but man has not freed himself from other slavery: the rope that surrounds the figures is like a noose that binds them in a condition (concrete or mental) of enslavement with respect to the “choices” imposed by society. The rope, however, has no knots: humanity binds itself autonomously to the apathy of its comfort zone, without operating actions of freedom. Only the child is free from any kind of bond because it is not yet subject to external influences.
